The hat is worked in continuous rounds, starting at the top of the hat. Work with the right side up and do not join the ends of the rows.
The back of the hat and the ear flaps are worked in rows back and forth through part of the stitches on the last round of the hat.
To change color, work the last stitch of the previous color until the last turn of yarn. Pass the yarn over with the new color and go through all the loops to complete the stitch.

Work 2 rounds or rows with A, B, C, D, E, F and G.
Repeat this color sequence for the striped sequence.

Round 8: *2 sc in the next sc, sc in the next 6 sc; repeat from * around – 48 sts.
Round 9: *2 sc in the next sc, sc in the next 7 sc; repeat from * around – 54 sts.
Round 10: *2 sc in the next sc, sc in the next 8 sc; repeat from * around – 60 sts.
Rows 11-22: sc in every sc around, continuing with striped sequence. Do not close.
Hat back and ear flaps
Note: The back of the hat and the ear flaps are worked in rows, over the 40 sts on the last round of the hat.
Continue changing color following the sequence of stripes.
Row 1: 1 PC, turn, sc in the first 2 sts, sc in the next 8 sts, sc in the next 20 sts, sc in the next 8 sts, sc in the next 2 sts; leave the last 20 pts without working – 40 pts.
Row 2: 1 PC, turn, sc in the first 2 sts, sc in the next 8 sts, sc in the next 20 sts, sc in the next 8 sts, sc in the last 2 sts.
Row 3: 1 PC, turn, sc in the first 3 sts, sc in the next 6 sts, sc in the next 22 sts, sc in the next 6 sts, sc in the last 3 sts.
Row 4: 1 PC, turn, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts, sc in next 22 sts, sc in next 6 sts, sc in next st, sc2tog – 38 sts.
Row 5: 1 PC, turn, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, sc in next 24 sts, sc in next 4 sts, sc in next st, sc2tog – 36 sts.
Row 6: 1 Ch, turn, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 26 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, sc2tog – 34 sts.
Do not close.
Borders
Change to color G.
From the right side, work evenly around the entire outer brim of the hat; join with a sr in the first st in the first sc.
Close.
Finish: Bows (make 2)
Join color G with a pr at the point of a lapel.
Make 40 pc.
Close.
Repeat the loop on the other ear.
Knit the ends.
