    Crochet the Head of the Lizard

    The head and the body are knitted in a single piece, with Golf Green thread in a spiral single crochet. The head, body and legs of the lizard are knitted in one go (in one piece), so you only need to cut the thread when the instructions indicate.

    • Crochet the head in a spiral with Golf Green yarn .
    •  Round 1: 6 sc inside the magic ring (6 stitches).
    •  Round 2: [1 inc, 2 sc] x 2 (8 stitches).
    •  Round 3: [1 inc, 3 sc] x 2 (10 stitches).
    •  Round 4: [1 inc, 4 sc] x 2 (12 stitches).
    •  Round 5: [1 inc, 5 sc] x 2 (14 stitches).
    •  Round 6: [1 inc, 6 sc] x 2 (16 stitches).
    •  Round 7: [1 inc, 7 sc] x 2 (18 stitches).
    •  Round 8: [1 inc, 8 sc] x 2 (20 stitches).
    •  Round 9: [3 sc, 1 inc] x 5 (25 stitches).
    •    Round 10-12: 3 rounds, each round 25 sc (25 stitches).
    •  Round 13: [3 sc, 1 dec] x 5 (20 stitches).
    •  Round 14: [3 sc, 1 dec] x 4 (16 stitches).
    •  Round 15: Stuff the head with polyester stuffing and close it. Press the opening of the head so that the two rows of stitches are parallel to each other. The last stitch you knitted is the one on the far right.
    • Pass the needle through the next stitch and through the stitch directly opposite that stitch (but not through the last stitch you knit).
    • Make a loop, pass the thread through both stitches and knit 1 sc.
    • Following the same process, join all the opposite stitches with 1 sc, except for the first and last stitch. The head is closed with a total of 7 sc (7 stitches).

     

    Weave the Body of the Lizard

    Continue knitting the body of the lizard with Golf Green yarn in single crochet rows.

    •  Row 2: Turn without turning chain, 5 sc (5 stitches).
    •  Row 3: 1 turning chain, 5 sc (5 stitches).
    •  Row 4: Chain 1 turning, 1 inc, 3 sc, 1 inc, knit 1st leg (see “Knit Front Lizard Legs” section below). After knitting the front leg, continue knitting on the 5th row.
    •  Row 5: 3 sc in next body stitch, 5 sc, 1 inc, knit 2nd leg (see “Knit Front Lizard Legs” section below). After knitting the 2nd front leg, continue knitting on the 6th row.
    •  Row 6: 3 sc in the next stitch on the body, 7 sc, 1 inc.
    •  Row 7: 1 turning chain, 1 inc, 9 sc, 1 inc (13 stitches).
    •                                        Row 8-46: You can add more rows if you want your bookmark to be longer, or less if you want it to be shorter. 39 rows, each row 1 turning chain, 13 sc (13 stitches).
    •  Row 47: Chain 1 turning, 13 sc, work 1st hind leg (see section «Working Lizard Hind Legs» below). After knitting the back leg, continue knitting on the 48th row.
    •  Row 48: K 1, 11 sc, knit 2nd hind leg (see “Knit Lizard Hind Legs” section below). After knitting the back leg, continue knitting on the 49th row.
    •  Row 49: 1 dis, 10 sc.

     

    Weave the Tail of the Lizard

    Continue knitting the tail of the lizard with Golf Green yarn in single crochet rows.

    • Continue weaving the tail in Golf Green color .
    •  Row 1: 1 turning chain, 10 sc (10 stitches).
    •  Row 2: 1 turning chain, 1 dis, 8 sc (9 stitches)
    •    Row 3-5: 3 rows, each row 1 turning chain, 9 sc (9 stitches).
    •  Row 6: 1 turning chain, 7 sc, 1 des (8 stitches).
    •    Row 7-9: 3 rows, each row 1 turning chain, 8 sc (8 stitches).
    •  Row 10: 1 turning chain, 1 dec, 6 sc (7 stitches).
    •    Row 11-13: 3 rows, each row 1 turning chain, 7 sc (7 stitches).
    •  Row 14: 1 turning chain, 5 sc, 1 des (6 stitches).
    •    Row 15-17: 3 rows, each row 1 turning chain, 6 sc (6 stitches).
    •  Row 18: 1 turning chain, 1 dis, 4 sc (5 stitches).
    •    Row 19-21: 3 rows, each row 1 turning chain, 5 sc (5 stitches).

    Crochet the Front Legs of the Lizard (2x)

    Continue knitting the front legs of the lizard in Golf Green without cutting the thread.

    •  Row 1: 15 chain stitches, [6 chain stitches, 1 double crochet in the 3rd stitch from the needle, 3 sl st] x 4.
    • Pass the needle through the stitch to the left of the last toe you knitted, make a yarn over and pull the thread through. Repeat this step with all the other stitches between the toes and the stitch to the left of the first toe that you knitted. You will have 5 loops on the needle. Make a yarn over and thread through all 5 loops.
    •  Row 2: 5 sc, 3 half double crochets, [1 double crochet, 1 inc double crochet] x 3. Go back to row 4 or row 5 .
