3 shells = 5 1⁄4″ (13.5 cm); 8 rows = 4 1⁄4″ (11 cm) in body lace pattern with one large hook.

3 shells =5 1⁄4″ (13.5 cm); 8 rows = 51⁄2″ (14 cm) in edging pattern with one small hook.

Instructions

When instructed to work on the back bar of a stitch, do so as follows.

For a chain: Work the single loop from the back of the chain stitch (looks like a ridge).

For a single crochet or double crochet: Work in the horizontal bar below the top two loops on the back of the stitch.
