FREE PATTERN Crochet Color Patches Scarf

The scarf is worked in back and forth rows, changing the thread color following the diagram.

Each box in the diagram represents a sc worked with the indicated thread. Read the odd rows from right to left and the even rows from left to right.

To change the color of the thread, work the last stitch of the previous color until the last yarn over. Yarn over with the new color and go through all the loops on the hook to complete the stitch. Proceed with the new color. Do not cut the previous color.

When not in use, carry A along the top of the stitches from the previous row and work the stitches from the current row over the top of the carried yarn. When not in use, leave B, C, D, E and F on the wrong side of the piece and pick up the yarn over when needed on the next row.

The fringes are added to the two short ends of the finished scarf.

Scarf

With B, pc 49.

Note: If you want the base sc to match the colors used in row 1, work as follows: With A, sc 8; with D, pc 8; with A, pc 8; with C, pc 8; with A, pc 8; with B, sc 9. When you change yarn color, leave long tails of yarn to knit later.

Row 1 (right side): Sc in the 2nd sc from the hook and in each sc across, changing the yarn color following row 1 of the diagram – you will have 48 sc in this row.

Row 2: Sc 1, turn, sc in each stitch across, changing thread color following row 2 of the diagram.

Continue working in sc rows, changing the yarn color following the diagram, until all 64 rows in the diagram have been worked 4 times, for a total of 256 rows from the beginning.

Starting again with row 1 of the diagram, work until you complete row 16 of the diagram.

Button up.

Finish

Weave the ends.

Fringe

Cut 2 strands of A about 25.5 inches (65 cm) long. Keep the strands together and fold them in half. Use the hook to draw the fold across one short end of the scarf, forming a loop. Thread the ends of the fringes through this loop. Pull to tighten.

Make 20 fringes spaced evenly along each end of the scarf.

Trim the ends of the fringe evenly.
