Use two strands to make the back. However, if you want to use a single strand, use a 3.5mm and 56 pc. Also instead of working 40 rows for the first piece work 48 and 46 for the second piece, instead of 38.
Using two strands of color A and a 4mm hook, make 40 pc.
SC in second ch from hook and through, ch 1, turn (39).
Rows 2-38: sc through, ch 1, turn (39).
Row 39: Pr in the first two stitches, sc in the first 8 stitches, pc 1 and skip a stitch, pb in the next 8, pc 1 and skip a stitch, pb in the next 8 stitches, pc 1 and skip a stitch, sc in the next 8 stitches, skip the last two stitches, pc 1 and turn.
Row 40: sc in each stitch and ch space on the row.
Again using double strands of color A, make 40 pc.
SC in second ch from hook and through, ch 1, turn (39).
Rows 2-38: sc through, ch 1, turn (39).
You will have three pieces.
Finish
Now is the time to sew the buttons in front of the buttonholes of the other piece.
Sewing: Lastly, keeping the two panels together with the right sides facing out, sc the two pieces together.
Be sure to leave the two extra rows that we worked on the first piece (see photo below) when joining the front and back. So it is recommended that you sew on the buttons and fasten your piece before sewing it.
