Tips

  • At the beginning of each round of double treble crochets, work 3 chain stitches. These chain stitches do not replace the first double crochet; are worked additionally. The round ends with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
  • Chain stitch: If you work at the tip of the fabric, the chain stitch will often be very tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as the width of 1 double crochet.
  • Pattern: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Choose the corresponding diagram for your size.
  • Decreases (split): To calculate how to decrease stitches spread, count the total number of stitches on the round (for example 99 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to work (for example 11) = 9. In this example decrease working together every 8th and 9th stitches as follows: * Yarn over 1, insert hook through next stitch, pick up yarn, yarn over 1 and pull yarn through first 2 loops on hook *, work from * to * 1 time more, make 1 yarn over and pass it through the 3 loops on the hook (= 1 stitch decreased).
  • Way: Moisten the beret and squeeze out the excess water. Place the beret on a plate of approx. the same diameter as the cap. Place the plate on glass so that the beret does not touch the surface. Let the beret dry and carefully remove it from the plate. Repeat after each wash.

Abandoned

  • The piece is worked in the round, from top to bottom.
  • Use the 4mm hook and thread. Work 5 chain stitches and form a ring with 1 slip stitch in the 1st chain stitch.
  • Work diagram A.1 (choose the corresponding diagram for your size) 9 times horizontally around the ring of chain stitches.
  • When A.1 has been completed there should be 16-17 double crochets in each repetition = 144-153 double crochets on the round.
  • Work diagram A.2 on A.1. When A.2 has been completed there should be 11-12 double crochets in each repetition = 99-108 double crochets.
  • Work 1 round with 1 double crochet in each stitch and decrease 11-16 stitches spread over the round = 88-92 stitches.
  • Work 3 rows of single crochets in the back loop of each stitch. The beret should measure approx. 22-23cm. Cut and secure the thread.
