This dog sweater is made in pieces and sewn together. The sc borders are added after sewing.

Start at the bottom, 34 (36, 40, 44) pc.
Row 1 (Right side): Dc in 3rd pc from hook and in each pc across, turn – 32 (34, 38, 42) dc.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): 1 Pc, scfl in each dc across, turn.
Row 3: 3 Dc (does not count as a st, here and throughout the row), 2 dc in the first sc, dc in each dc to the last dc, 2 dc in the last dc, turn – 34 (36, 40 , 44) pa.
Rows 4-8 (4-10, 4-12, 4-14): Repeat rows 2 and 3.
Row 9 (11, 13, 15): 3 Stc, dc in each sc throughout; close.
Body
18 (22, 34, 46) Pc.
Row 1 (Right side): Dc in 3rd pc from hook and in each pc around, turn – 16 (20, 32, 44) dc.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): 1 Pc, scfl in each dc around, turn.
Row 3: 3 Stc, dc in each sc across, turn.
Rows 4-31 (4-39, 4-49, 4-61): Repeat rows 2 and 3; close.
Rotate the piece 90 degrees so that the side edge is on top.
With the wrong side facing up, join the yarn in the upper right corner, 1 sc, sc in the same joining st, sc evenly throughout, working at the ends of the rows. With right side facing up, work 1 sc row evenly across bottom edge. Sew the body seam to form a tube.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd pc from hook and in each pc around, turn – 17 (19, 23, 27) dc.
Row 2: 1 Pc, scfl in each dc across, changing to A in last st, turn.
Row 3: 3 Stc, dc in each sc across, turn.
Rows 4-7 (4-9, 4-11, 4-13): Repeat rows 2 and 3; close.
Front chest
12 (14, 18, 22) Pc.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd pc from hook and in each pc around, turn 10 (12, 16, 20) dc.
Row 2: 1 Pc, scfl in each dc around, turn.
Row 3: 3 Stc, 2 dc in first sc, dc in every sc until last sc, 2 dc in last sc, turn – 12 (14, 18, 22) dc.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: 3 Stc, dc in each sc across, turn.
Rows 6-7 (6-9, 6-11, 6-13): Repeat rows 4 and 5.
Rows 8 (10, 12, 14): Repeat row 2; top off.
Front collar

Row 1: Dc in 3rd sc from hook, 1 sc, skip 1 sc, dc in each sc to last 2 sc, 1 sc, skip 1 sc, sq in last sc, turn – 8 (10, 14, 16) points.
Row 2: 1 Pc, scfl in each st across, turn.
Row 3: 2 Pc, dc in each st across, turn.
Rows 4-18 (4-20, 4-28, 4-34): Repeat rows 2 and 3, ending with row 2.
Row 19 (21, 29, 35): 2 sc, dc in first sc, 1 sc, skip 1 sc, dc in each sc until the last 2 sc, 1 sc, skip 1 sc, dc in last sc; close.
Front edge of neck
With purl facing up, sc evenly around front neck band, sl to join; close.
Finish
With the wrong side facing, center the end of the tail with the bottom of the body and sew it. Center the Back Neck and Front Chest with the top of the Body, leaving the same number of sts open on each side for the leg openings, and sew in place.
Borders
With right sides facing wrong, sew evenly around the bottom of the body and the end of the tail, stitch together and fasten off. Repeat around the upper body, back neck and front chest. With wrong side up, center front neck tape on front chest, overlap pieces 3⁄4″, and sew together. Sew 2 buttons on each side of the Back Collar facing buttonholes on each end of the front collar tape. Weave extremes.
